Working through two local partner non-governmental organisations (NGOs), we work primarily in rescuing and rehabilitating Nepalese children, providing mental health services, education and training. We aim to reintegrate children and young people with families and communities (where safe to do so) and/or prepare them for independent living as adults. We have a dedicated legal team that pursues cases against child rapists, ensuring that they end up behind bars where they belong.
In recent months, in response to the Climate Emergency, we have started supporting environmental projects in south Nepal that offer the prospect of carbon sequestration. We had just transferred funds to an NGO in south Nepal for this and an associated community project when the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Now, in response to that emergency, we have extended our interests to incorporate urgent healthcare needs.
ChoraChori receives no government funding in either Nepal or the UK. Instead we are entirely reliant on grants from corporates and charitable Foundations, on community fundraising (schools, churches, clubs) and on donations from individuals including gifts in Wills. We are proud to be the charity partner for the Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) Federation for the three-year collaboration “Empowering Girls in Nepal” programme that launched in October 2011.
Perhaps while your mind is on writing, you might consider mentioning us if you are about to write or re-write your Will? After you have provided for your priority interests, even a 1% gift could make a huge difference to us. We pride ourselves on being very cost-effective and in ensuring the maximum gets to the point of need. Last year 93% of our charitable expenditure went to our Nepal projects!
